Buck Angel Photo by Dirk Hooper Selected for Kinsey Art Show

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — A photo by fine-art photographer Dirk Hooper featuring adult trans icon Buck Angel has been chosen for the Kinsey Institute’s 2014 Juried Art Show.

Jurors have selected more than 90 art pieces for the show that opens to the general public today, May 17, in the Grunwald Gallery of Art at Indiana University.

“My photography, in general, is about magnifying a fantasy persona, or elevating subjects by emphasizing their strengths,” Dirk Hooper said. “I tell subjects that I want to present the person you are on Halloween, not the person you are in day-to-day life. My photos tend to have an erotic or fetish quality, but I want to stimulate your mind, not your naughty bits.”

Referring to his photo of Angel, Hooper added “I created the setting and chose the aesthetic look of this photo to present a timeless iconic visual to match Mr. Angel’s iconic presence.”

Hooper is a fantasy and fetish photographer, fine artist and writer whose work has been described as “forbidden tales to rival the likes of H.P. Lovecraft and the Marquis de Sade.” His publishing credits include eclectic mediums, ranging from comic books to music projects to art books like “Fetish Fantasies: The Best of International Fetish Photography” and slick fetish magazine “Skin Two Magazine.”

Angel is an FTM transsexual adult film star, who has travelled the world to spread his message of self-acceptance, visiting places as diverse as Yale University, Idea City, Spike TV, “The Tyra Banks Show” and the “Howard Stern Show.”

The Kinsey Institute’s Juried Art Show opens today and will run until Saturday, July 12. The Grunwald Gallery of Art is located at 1201 E 7th St. at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show premiered in April 2006 in the Kinsey Institute Gallery. For more information about the show, click here.
